FROM MARBLE TO COLOR
Reconstructing the colours of Trajan’s Column requires extensive research and careful interpretation. This project combines archaeological evidence, Roman material culture, surviving ancient pigments, and comparative visual sources to create historically informed reconstructions—while clearly distinguishing between documented evidence and informed interpretation.

TRANSPARENT INTERPRETATION
Where evidence ends and reconstruction begins, the distinction is made clear for every scene.
THE FIRST DACIAN WAR
101–102 AD
In 101 AD, Emperor Trajan launched a campaign to bring Dacia, ruled by King Decebal, under Roman control.
Trajan’s Column in Rome was erected to honor this victory. Its 190-meter frieze tells the story of the war in 155 scenes.
This project reconstructs that story in colour—scene by scene.
